CASTING for Moby Dick on the Transporter Bridge

We so pleased to announce that we are currently casting for our upcoming production of Moby Dick on the Transporter Bridge. We're looking for two performers to join our create team working this September and October to create a unique piece of outdoor performance, on the gondola of The Transporter Bridge.
Working closely, merging professionals and non-professionals, we are on the brink of creating something wholly unique and exciting for the city of Newport. If you are a male performer aged between 21-65 interested in working alongside us, then please read more about the role below.

ABOUT THE WORK

Tin Shed Theatre Co. in partnership with First Campus have recently been awarded Arts Council Wales and Heritage Lottery funding to support a five-week creation period, followed by two weeks of outdoor performance in Oct 2018.
This project is the culmination of an extensive 3-year working relationship with Newport City Council, that includes two previous research and development phases funded by The Fusion Project and Arts Council Wales.
Basing ourselves heavily in Pillgwenlly, on the Transporter Bridge and in The Pill Millennium Centre, we will be physically exploring the work for 3 weeks creating a new piece of theatre based on the story of Moby Dick.
This work is about reimagining a much-loved piece of heritage and an icon of Newport’s city skyline, whilst repurposing the platform of the gondola as a temporary performance space. We want to tackle the gritty and awesome text that is Moby Dick, exploring the work through devising theatre practices, movement, puppetry and performance, whilst exploring the potential of linking a small cast of professional performers with a larger non-professional community cast, to create an inclusive piece of performance that will float audiences over the Usk.
We want to creating a performance through which we can speak about our city, share our stories, and make a statement of action and participation whilst standing boldly together on the platform of the bridge. Through doing this we want to question the value of heritage, looking at the bridges history whilst exploring it's future, creating a unique celebratory event for the people of Newport, and beyond.

ABOUT THE ROLES
Within the framework of the piece there are four roles for professional performers. Working creatively with the Director and with a devised script, these roles are about exploring and developing strong characters, perfecting the physicality of the piece, and story telling through the medium of ensemble performance, acting and puppetry. With a professional cast of four, working with and alongside a performer musician, and a larger community cast, we want to create something wholly unique.
Two of the four roles have already been cast, and so now we are looking for two more performers to join our creative team. We want to connect with interesting, inventive and insightful performers from multiple disciplines and training who can bring a sense of who they are to the story and the world we we’ll create together.
Working in the heart of Pillgwenlly with a cast and crew of professionals and non-professionals we are looking for talented individuals who are passionate about working with people, creating awe-inspiring experiences and telling stories that although remain dethatched from the literal, still have the ability to change our thoughts and perceptions of the real world.
